Calcasieu Parish Public Library!

Important Changes to Cards for Patrons Under 18
The Calcasieu Parish Public Library has adopted an updated Circulation Policy that adapts to the new ACT 436 legislation. 
More information on the statute itself may be found at this link.
 
Please keep reading for how this impacts cards for patrons under 18.
 
 
 
If a minor’s account is not updated on or after February 19th, we will have to expire it on June 1st to comply with the new legislation. This means the account will become inactive, and any associated parent accounts will also become inactive.
We’re asking parents and guardians to come into a branch as soon as possible to prevent service disruptions.

Paint and Learn with Brenda Vallier

Paint while you learn at the Sulphur Regional Library! Brenda Vallier from the SWLA Master Naturalist will teach children (ages ten and up) how the changing distance between the sun, moon, and earth affects what we see.
 
In this fun and educational activity, children will get to paint their own sun, moon, and earth while they learn. Registration is required.

Suicide Prevention-Education & Awareness
with the Kay Doré Counseling Clinic

Join us on Zoom for a Question, Persuade, and Refer class that teaches suicide education. 
 
Led by the Suicide Education & Awareness Coordinator at Kay Doré Counseling Clinic, patrons will receive information about how to pick up on clues when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis and how to offer assistance. Registration is required.

If your civic group or neighborhood would like to have a litter pickup day, be sure to keep your library in mind and checkout the tools that you need! 
 
Keep Louisiana Beautiful has partnered with the Louisiana State Library and the Louisiana Public Library System to make litter clean up supplies readily available for check out at local libraries across the state. You can now use your library card to check out a clean up kit, which includes a safety vest, grabbers, a trash bag, and instructions on how to conduct your cleanup. This program provides the perfect opportunity for students to get service hours for school. It’s also a great hands-on way for families, small homeschool groups, youth groups, and scouts to care for their neighborhood.
