Exploring Google Earth

Join us for a unique book club adventure!  We'll discuss the book, "Frozen River" by Ariel Lawhon with a Google Earth Tour.
 
After the discussion, we'll take a tour of Google Earth to explore the places mentioned in the book!

Reindeer Games

Moss Bluff Library
 
Join us at Moss Bluff Library's Reindeer Games and enjoy some winter-themed shenanigans where you can craft flying reindeers and race them in this STEAM activity. 
 
No registration required.
 
Event has been designed for teens, grades 6th-12th.

Frost & Snowflakes

Do you know the difference between frost and snowflakes? If not, join us for our monthly STEAM activity!
 
This program is intended for children in grades 1st-5th.

Join us at the Westlake Library for a fun and easy-to-follow craft.
 
Adults are invited to make beautiful air-dry clay ornaments embossed with fabric pieces or items found in nature.

Want to check the consumer ratings before buying those pricey holiday gifts?
This month we’re highlighting access to Consumer Reports via EBSCO.
Consumer Reports (CR) is the world's largest nonprofit product-testing organization and has been helping subscribers find better, safer products for 80+ years.
 
Consumer Reports accepts no outside advertising and no free test samples, and employs shoppers and experts to buy and test the products reviewed. 
The Basics: 
  • Required: A library card | If you want to create a free account, you'll need an email address and will be prompted to create a password. (This is optional)
  • What’s Offered: Full text articles from magazines and journals | eBooks for reference and research
  • Availability: Website on PCs/laptops, tablets, & smartphones
Try it out!
  • Season of Giving: Stuck on what to get people? Go to the Consumer Reports page. Scroll down until you see Search within this publication. Type in “gifts,” then click the search icon to the right in the box. Change the drop-down filter that says “Relevance” to “Date Newest.” This gets you the latest and most up-to-date articles. There is one from 2024 for “Great Gifts Under $40.” Click Access now (PDF) to read it.

  • Fry Day: You saw an air fryer on the list and that reminded you that you wanted to get a new one! On the search results page, replace “gifts” with “air fryer.” This will search for articles related to air fryers. Again, you can sort by Date Newest to see the latest reviews.

  • You Get a Car!:  But what if you want to upgrade to something much bigger? Replace “air fryer” in the search box with “car.” Sorting by Date Newest, you’ll see ratings from the 2025 Buying Guide. Use this to help you pick your next ride!
