RESOURCE OF THE MONTH
This month we're highlighting a go-to resource for all ages:

With content available at four distinct levels, library patrons can easily conduct research, tackle special projects, or dive into topics that spark their personal interests.
The Basics:

  • Required: Library Card for access outside of the library
  • What’s Offered: Articles, media, and resources for research| Interactive slideshows| Flash Facts for quick learning and trivia| Geography tools including “Compare Countries” and an interactive World Atlas
  • Age Levels: Children (elementary students) | Young Adults (middle & high school students) | Reference Center (upper high school students and adults)
  • Availability: Website on PCs/laptops, tablets, & smartphones

Try it out!

  • Enhanced Experience: Britannica’s upgraded features make articles more accessible for all learners. Go to the level for Children then type in “Louisiana” in the search bar at the top. Search and select the first result. The tool menu to the left has a button to click to Translate the article into different languages and one to turn on the Open Dyslexic font. Plus, a Play button appears above each section that turns on the Read-Aloud feature when clicked.

  • Around the World: Britannica also makes it easy to virtually travel the globe. Click on “Children” at the top left to go back to the level’s home page. Scroll down until you see the Interactives section, then click. These enriched slideshows let learners interact with the graphics. Click on “Africa.” The second slide features a map of the continent with clickable dots that highlight important landmarks.

  • New to Use: Now go to the Young Adults level. Click on the In the News feature at the top. This section ties current events and exciting discoveries to educational topics. It includes a Word of the Day and themed puzzle to engage learners even more.
