From Scratch: Handmade Pasta Workshop

Moss Bluff Branch

Join us for a hands-on culinary experience where you'll master the art of crafting fresh pasta from scratch. We'll guide you through every step, from mixing and shaping the dough to cooking the pasta. Afterward, come together to enjoy and share the delicious creations you've made.

American Girl Dolls Story Time

Sulphur Regional Branch

Join us for a special story time featuring American Girl Dolls! There will be plenty of activities to enjoy, and you are welcome to bring your own doll for a makeover. Refreshments will be provided. This program is a collaborative effort between the library and the Junior League of Lake Charles.

The Junior League of Lake Charles partners with the library to promote literacy in our community.

The Acadian Role in the American Revolution

Join the Southwest Louisiana Genealogical Society and the SWLA Genealogical and Historical Branch for a fascinating presentation by Mr. Warren Perrin on the role of the Acadians in inspiring, fighting, and winning the American Revolution.

Mr. Perrin is an attorney, author, historian, and preservationist with a focus on promoting and documenting the history of the Acadians.

This month we’re highlighting Britannica Library!

What’s Offered: Articles, media, and resources for research| Interactive slideshows| Flash Facts for quick learning and trivia| Geography tools including “Compare Countries” and an interactive World Atlas

Age Levels: Young Children (pre-readers) | Children (elementary students) | Young Adults (middle & high school students) | Reference Center (upper high school students and adults)

Availability: Website on PCs/laptops, tablets, & smartphones

Try It Out!

Learning for Littles: Britannica’s newest age level is Young Children, featuring easy ways for pre-readers to navigate using large pictures and audio.

After logging in, click on Young Children to go to the level’s landing page.

Scroll down until you get to the section with interactives. Click on any of the featured ones or go to “See all” for a list of fun learning experiences that include games like Blue Whale Adventure and Pick the Panda.

News to Use: Go back to the levels page and select Children.

Near the top, you’ll see the In the News section. Students can dive into topics related to recent discoveries or current events. Plus, each article has a related Word of the Day to expand their vocabulary and puzzles for more learning fun.

Enriched Exploration: Now go to the Young Adults level. Scroll down until you get to the Explore menu, then click on Pictures & Videos. Click on the Arts and Literature category, then change Media Type in the results section from All toVideos. Students can watch culture come to life by visiting subcategories like Dance and Music.
